Billet dur : Mais où est passé Tokio Hotel ?
Vous vous souvenez certainement de ce groupe mythique composé de quatre garçons allemand, Tokio Hotel. Ce groupe au nom si exotique nous faisant penser à un film érotique et exotique des années 70 alors qu’il s’agissait en fait de quatre nutons originaires de Magdebourg en Allemagne, une ville industrielle de la Saxe-Anhalt (à prononcer avec le «t», c’est important pour éviter tout malentendu) dont la spécialité est la tarte à l’oignon et le ragoût de langue. Et bien, ils sont toujours en vie. Ceux à qui l’on prédisait un avenir mirobolant ont pourtant aujourd’hui disparu des ondes radiophoniques. Trop vieux pour NRJ, trop jeunes pour France Bleu, que sont devenus les Tokio Hotel ?
De fait, entre 2005 et 2008, nos quatre teutons avaient envahi les salles de France et de Navarre jusqu’à déclencher une vague d’hystérie chez les jeunes filles en manque de boys band. Avant de pouvoir jeter leur soutien-gorge «petit-bateau» au visage de nos héros de la scène, les groupies stationnaient des heures voire des jours entiers devant les portes afin de pouvoir être aux premières loges et lancer à leurs idoles un «Ich liebe dich» à la tonalité si gutturale, à défaut d’être romantique.
Et oui, Tokio Hotel avait réussi une prouesse magistrale : faire aimer l’allemand aux collégiennes. Un exploit qui ferait passer le Roi Arthur sortant Excalibur de son rocher pour un vulgaire perdant de Top Chef sortant une lame orange de son fourreau. Oui, Tokio Hotel était la figure de proue d’une nouvelle jeunesse enterrant à jamais les Backstreet Boys et autres 2 be 3. Fini Nick Carter ou Filip Nikolic, place à Bill et Tom Kaulitz, les jumeaux leaders du groupe dont l’un était maquillé à la Boy George.
Mais voilà, comme toute histoire prématurée, le succès fût aussi soudain qu’éphémère. Comme le dit si bien l’écrivaine Donna Tartt : « La raison pour laquelle un succès précoce peut désorienter un écrivain, c’est que ce succès peut le pousser à surproduire ». Pour la musique, et en particulier pour les Tokio Hotel, cet adage sonne tel le cristal. Et pour cause, après avoir connu le succès international grâce à l’album Scream, nos jeunes hommes vont s’éparpiller en voulant surfer sur la vague et en suivant aveuglement les euros surprotéinés et vénéneux de Polydor. Au point de sortir un best-of alors que nos artistes en culottes courtes n’avaient sorti que trois albums. Un comble qui sera récompensé par le dédain de ceux qui les suivaient jadis et qui depuis, ont grandi et se sont dit que l’allemand, ce n’était pas si facile en fait.
La seule issue possible ? Le Japon. Un chemin de rédemption incontournable vers ce pays au vu du nom du groupe. Après Helmut Lotti, le peuple nippon accueilla le groupe allemand avec joie et politesse.
Aujourd’hui, les frères Kaulitz, un temps partis dans l’anonymat aux Etats-Unis, se retrouvent dans le jury de la Nouvelle Star d’outre-Rhin (terminée en mai dernier). Quant aux deux autres membres du groupe, ils travaillent sur un hypothétique futur album.
